SAMGOC MEMBERS & THEIR CARS
Words and Picture by Mike Giblenn
Model :-  MG RV8.
Registration Number :-  G7 MGR
Year of Registration :-
G7 MGR  (chassis number 1230)

I purchased the car in July 2004 with less then 10,000 miles on the clock.
The car was one of the 1500 or so that went to Japan and is Woodcote green (as most of them are) I love the colour and would have chosen it if I was given a choice.

I am the second UK owner. The original UK owner had the car for about a year but was not doing many miles at all so decided to sell it.
The original registration number was M233 COT and is pictured on the latest version of the RV8 workshop notes CD from the MG car club.

Since acquiring the car I have made some minor improvements including a new high efficiency radiator, larger exhaust which also improves the sound and fitted new tyres as the originals were 10 years old and had perished sidewalls. More recently I have had the car waxoiled and have fitted a new hood. (work carried out by Clive Wheatley 01746 710810)

I first became interested in MG’s back in the early 80s when a friend of mine owned  2 MGCs and an Aston Martin DB5. I was soon hooked on Astons and MGs and soon purchased one of the last chrome bumper BGTs built in 1974 in teal blue.

An Aston martin had always been the ultimate but not having the funds I  could only dream.

In 2000 my brother in law purchased an RV8 and once I had driven it I was hooked on the power and especially the torque. There was a big difference between the RV8 and the BGT as I remember it.

I spent the next couple of years driving his until I was able to buy my own car in 2004.

One of the great things about this car is its ability to cruise at low revs. At nearly 30 mph per 1000 in 5th high speed cruising is very relaxed.

The car is pretty much as I want it now.

If I won the lottery I would buy myself an Aston Martin but I will never part with my RV8.
